Two technologies commonly used to improve drone positioning accuracy are <strong>RTK (Real-Time Kinematic)<\/strong> and <strong>PPK (Post-Processed Kinematic)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What Is RTK?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">RTK determines and corrects the drone\u2019s position <strong>in real time<\/strong> during flight. The drone receives correction data from a nearby base station or an RTK network, allowing it to calculate its position with much greater accuracy than standard GNSS positioning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Because corrections are applied during the flight, RTK is useful when accurate positioning information is needed immediately.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What Is PPK?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">PPK uses a different approach. Instead of correcting the drone\u2019s position during the flight, positioning data are recorded and <strong>corrected after the mission is completed<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The recorded flight data are combined with reference station data during post-processing. This allows the final coordinates to be refined even if the drone temporarily loses its correction connection during the flight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">RTK vs PPK<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The main difference is <strong>when the positioning correction takes place<\/strong>. RTK performs corrections in real time, while PPK performs them after the flight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">RTK generally requires a stable communication link between the drone and its correction source. PPK is less dependent on maintaining that connection throughout the mission, making it useful in areas where communication can be unreliable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Which One Should You Use?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Neither technology is automatically better than the other. The choice depends on the survey environment, equipment, communication conditions, workflow, and accuracy requirements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For projects requiring reliable real-time positioning, RTK can be a practical choice.
