However, despite advances in imaging technology, one natural obstacle continues to limit their effectiveness: cloud cover.<br>Why Clouds Block Optical Satellites<br>Optical satellites capture images by detecting sunlight reflected from Earth&#8217;s surface. This process works much like a digital camera in space. When clouds are present, they reflect and scatter sunlight before it reaches the ground, preventing the sensor from capturing clear surface details.
